Band update!!
For those of you that don’t know, it is incredibly common in the Brass Band world for bands to be continually evolving, with players joining & leaving due to a variety of reasons. We at DSB have been fortunate enough to have had a really good period of stability for a number of years & have been over subscribed in many areas of the band. That stability & over subscription has proved invaluable to us over recent months as unfortunately we’ve said goodbye to our Musical Director of 10 years & 5 of our playing members.
The members who have recently decide to leave DSB are; Andy Grace (MD), John Ledger (EEb Bass), James McFadyen (Soprano Cornet), David Hook (Percussion), Richard Cook (1st Baritone) Janella Calvert (Principal Cornet). Every one of these players have been integral to our success over recent years & We cannot thank them enough for their dedication & commitment to the band, they have been brilliant, they are also missed by all of us very much. DSB prides itself on its family ethos & hope that they have all enjoyed their time with us. They will always be part of the DSB family, we’d love to see them all again & they are more than welcome to pop in for a visit whenever they can. Many thanks again to all of you.
Like I said earlier, bands continually evolve, so to that end we have some new appointments to tell you about!!
We are really pleased that Heather Curnow has agreed to become our new MD. Heather is one of the many success stories of the band, she started playing with the East Riding Youth Brass Band, moved up to DSB on trombone & worked her way through the ranks to occupy the Solo Trombone chair until she went to York University to Study Music. Its great to welcome you back Heather, we hope you enjoy your time with us, can you beat our previous MD Andy’s tenure of 10 years???
We are also incredibly pleased to welcome Joe (Soprano Cornet) & Rebecca Thompson (Tenor Horn) back to the band. Both Joe & Rebecca have been members of DSB in recent years & we were delighted to be invited to play at their wedding in 2015. Its great to have you both with us again & we look forward to many more happy banding years with you.
