A tribute to Rob Dawson who recently and unexpectedly passed away.

Rob was the Principal Euphonium player, deputy Conductor and committee member with Driffield Silver Band. Rob also played the euphonium with Hunmanby Silver Band.

The band are still in shock from this devasting news. Rob was very popular within the band; he made many friends and was keen to help anyone musically at every opportunity. There is a Message from Robs Wife Sue as it appeared on social media below.

A message for all the people whose lives my husband - Rob Dawson - has touched: students and colleagues, golf pals and musicians, friends and family, old and new.

Dear All,

It is with great pain and regrets that we respectfully inform you that Rob died on Wednesday 28th July 2021 at 01:00.

Only two months ago, Rob was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. He underwent 9 hours of brain surgery and thanks to the miraculous endeavours of the neurosurgical team at Hull Royal Infirmary, Rob made an incredible recovery. Within only 6 days, Rob was back to practising both classical piano and euphonium. He was determined to return to teaching, band practice, the golf society, and other areas of his life that have been temporarily suspended, as soon as he safely could. Robs greatest fear was in letting people down.

Within two weeks, Rob's symptoms began to return. The tumour had regrown and although Rob determined to fight to the end, as he knew no other way to live, sadly, Rob passed away peacefully and quickly in Castle Hill Hospital with both his wife and his son at his side.

May I apologise for not personally informing you all sooner?

I know you will understand the difficulty in finding such words during this time. While we are utterly devastated and broken-hearted to have lost Rob, I know that in the same way that this talented, kind, and gentle man touched our hearts, he has also touched each and every one of you connecting us all making us all Rob's family. We would therefore like to invite you all in a few weeks time, to a Musical Celebration of Rob's life and love. A very special day where we can all join together and celebrate our accomplishments and achievements in music, in sport and other hobbies, or simply in just knowingRob.

Rob would say it was his honour and privilege to have known each and every one of you and how you all contributed to making his life an incredible journey. This day of celebration is our way of uniting and together, reflecting on our experiences of Rob's devotion to his friends and music. Whilst we have no definite details as yet and will keep you informed, we would dearly love any ideas or musical contributions that anyone can make to enable a wonderful celebration for everyone, so please feel free to text me on Facebook Messenger or call me on 07909 141316.

I also wish to make a book of photos and messages from as many people as would love to be included a memoir if you will of Rob's life. If you would like to write Rob a message or notate an experience, whether funny or serious, happy, or sad, or supply pictures, newspaper cuttings, etc, please contact me.

Thank you for all your loving words of kindness and support at this time.

Fondest wishes

Sue Dawson and Rob Dawson Jr
